ABOUT RECENT SPANISH CINEMA

Starting with the 2026 edition, the Recent Spanish Cinema Series will adopt a new year-round format, presenting Spanish films throughout the entire calendar year to expand its catalogue and significantly increase the opportunities for the promotion and visibility of Spanish cinema. This new stage is produced by the ICAA and EGEDA US, with the special collaboration of the Spanish Film Academy.

Since 1994, the Recent Spanish Cinema Series has been presenting the most outstanding current Spanish films. Over the course of its history, the Series was also supported and produced in collaboration with the American Cinematheque, playing a key role in bringing Spanish cinema to Los Angeles for more than three decades.

The Series has served as a Seventh Art showcase for Spain’s top cinema personalities, who have contributed significantly to placing “Made in Spain” productions at the forefront of international filmmaking. Talents like Carmen Maura, Álex de la Iglesia, Paco León, Fernando Trueba, Ángela Molina, Antonio de la Torre, Paz Vega, Luis Tosar and Eduardo Noriega, among many others, have attended the event and shared their experiences with audiences during the post-screening Q&A sessions.

The Recent Spanish Cinema Series is an initiative of the Spanish Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA), a branch of the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport devoted to preserving, fostering, and promoting the Spanish filmmaking and audiovisual sectors, together with EGEDA US, the US-based Iberoamerican Audiovisual Producers’ Association that serves as a bridge between the US film industry and those of Spain and Latin America, and with the special collaboration of the Spanish Film Academy.

The Recent Spanish Cinema Series remains a key opportunity for audiences in the Los Angeles area to discover some of the most acclaimed Spanish productions and enjoy meaningful conversations with the talent behind them.
